AWRA Florida is comprised of water resources professionals from throughout Florida. Technical meetings are held 6 times per year in locations all around Florida. In general, technical meetings are held on Fridays and typically consist of the following:
This is a meeting of the Board of Directors to handle the administrative side of AWRA Florida. Topics covered are membership, scholarships, budget/finance, website, committee updates, future meetings, etc. Guests are welcome to attend these meetings. Attending a Board of Directors meeting is a great way to introduce yourself to the group and familiarize yourself with how the organization is managed. This is a great first step if you are interested in becoming a board member.
Lunch is typically provided at each technical meeting as part of the registration fee. This is a great opportunity for networking.
Most technical meetings have a water resources-related theme and experts and water resources leaders providing technical presentations and facilitating discussions. There are typically 5-6 speakers to allow a variety of topics to be covered. Speakers’ backgrounds and presentations will vary, but every one of them presents great information pertaining to current water resources topics.
After the technical meeting, there is usually a networking event. This is a great way to meet members and talk with guest speakers.
Some meetings have additional activities such as field trips, tours, etc. These may occur on Thursday evening or Friday morning before the meeting, or on Saturday morning after the meeting. These activities are typically related to the meeting’s theme.
